I chose Lincoln Park for my blog; I picked this spot because it is close to where I stay during the week when I’m in school.  I have been visiting the park for quite a few years and have brought my son up for the free zoo and nature museums; I have been here during every season at the park and have seen how it is utilized by the neighborhood residents and commuters alike.

Lincoln Park is the largest Park in the Chicago area and it includes a free zoo, museums, beach access, basketball courts, baseball diamonds and soccer fields.  It is run by the Chicago Park district so there are also many programs that are offered for kids and adults alike.  There is also a Farmer’s Market that is offered outside during the summer and inside during the winter in the park.

Jane Jacobs stated that parks, squares and other public places are important for a vital and healthy urban life and I believe that Lincoln Park is a very vital to the city of Chicago and especially the Old Town and Lincoln Park areas.

  1. I think the Lincoln park is probably one of Chicago’s best attractions. I read up in some old articles that it receives a few million visitors every year (which is a lot). It is very vital and creates a whole new atmosphere in such a busy busy city. Offering programs to children is a huge plus because it provides them with activities to keep busy.

    1. Great Idea choosing Lincoln Park. Its an great place to come together with the rest of the community. it allows for useful greenspace and for businesses to flourish. it offers so many different options for so many different types of people; plus like you said its FREE. Like Linda mentioned its a vital space in the area for everyone and allows children and youth a positive outlet.

  2. I love Lincoln Park! I think it is great that it is free as well! I love your photos! They show how Lincoln Park Zoo offers a great environment. I did not know that there was a path available for people to walk on, ride bikes on, or jog. The cultural elements of the park benefit the community because people can learn about other cultures by viewing these displays.

  3. I agree I love Lincoln Park as well. I have been there the past two years for the zoo lights and they put on a great show. It is amazing for the community to allow people walk around view the city and see animales as well. Also I love the new wood pavilion that they put a couple years back its one of my favorite views of the city.
